Freedom and authenticity: those matter. When you've had your fill of unaffirming, invalidating "authorities" (maybe even therapists) who amplify your self-questioning; you need someone who understands that your path through growth and healing, whatever that looks like for you, is your own.

I know how hard it can be to begin.

You've tried molding yourself into something you barely recognize to avoid disapproval or relationship conflicts. Others have tried to tell you who you are, or should be. Getting pelted with judgment, constantly pretending to be something other than yourself; it's exhausting.

You're more wanting support and understanding, less confusion and turbulence.

My own relationship with mental health services and therapy had a rough start. Long ago, before I could embrace my queerness in my 30s, I was a teenager. That teenager didn't have the words to describe his experience as "religious trauma" and was sent to a therapist to be "fixed". Through personal experience, I know that shame isn't a great approach for therapy. It didn't help me.

I (like you, believe it or not) never needed fixing.

Healing? Yes. Care? Definitely. Fixing? Nope.

That bad therapy experience I told you about? It shouldn't have happened. Despite that, I eventually returned to therapy and working with an affirming therapist supported my own experience of self-discovery.

There's freedom with authenticity.

If you decide that now is the time to embark on your own path of self-discovery, I would be honored to be by your side for the journey. If you don't know today where that journey will take you; we can work together to uncover what makes sense for you.

I want to commend you for being here now. Getting help, trusting someone with your hurt, can be life-changing.

I'm glad you're taking this step.
